Dear selection committee, My name is Asila Abdurakhmonova, and I am a fourth-year bachelor student majoring in Philology and teaching English at Karshi State University. I am a girl who was born into a family of judges and attorneys. My family expected me to become a judge or a lawyer like them. However, I made a significant change in my future profession and demonstrated to them the inverse. I chose to be an English teacher because I foresaw my future as a teacher. Nobody in my family expected me to pursue this field. My father initially opposed my decision to become a teacher preferring that I continue our family line by becoming a lawyer. I could stand up for my strong desires and dreams. By the means of my high academic performance, I proved to my father that I could be an excellent teacher and an expert in the English language field from my early school years. I responded extremely well to the English curriculum, with my exam results, final grades, and assignments achieving the top 1% rank in school. I would attend several regional and republican scientific Olimpiads in English. Finally, my father understood that I had a gifted talent for learning and teaching languages. Then my father started supporting me to become an English teacher. After being admitted to the university, I started to search for opportunities to study abroad. One day, a programme on TV caught my attention. It emphasized education in Slovakia and the benefits it provides to students. I discovered the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic, which gives great opportunities to study in Slovakia and fully explore European culture. During the investigation of the official website of the programme to apply for this scholarship, I observed that Matej Bel University is one of the universities eligible for the scholarship. While getting myself familiar with the university website, I found several reasons for studying at Matej Bel University. First of all, the presence of several native English teachers in my department at my host university attracted me to choose this university because of the fact that the English language is taught by non-native teachers at my home university in Uzbekistan. This creates several disadvantages for students in the English language department. During the lesson, non-native Uzbek teachers mostly use our national language. That affects the quality of the lesson and ruins knowledge and understanding of English. Unlike at my home university, I can learn English in the English language, which helps me to increase fluency and cohesion in English. Besides that, Matej Bel University offers several wonderful opportunities, such as career fairs, workshops, and many more, making it both dependable and an amazing pick. One distinguishing feature of my host university is that it offers international events and seminars for its employees and students to strengthen their intercultural skills through a variety of academic and research activities held in several languages. I will be able to apply the knowledge I gained from the lessons. For example, a seminar named "Global Skills and their Implementation in the Framework of Foreign Language Teaching in Secondary Schools as a Means of Developing the Key Competencies of Pupils and the Professional Identity of Future Teachers in the Context of Download 186.94 Kb.
