So how does wheat become the bread, rolls, pancakes, cereals and cookies on your table? The wheat seed (2) plants / is planted in the autumn. Growth (3) happens / is happened slowly at first, but by the following summer, the grain is ready to harvest. The farmer (4) uses / is used a machine called a combine to cut, separate and clean the grain. The combine (5) unloads /is unloaded the wheat onto a truck and the truck carries it to a grain elevator where it (6) stores / is stored. The wheat (7) then takes / is then taken to a a flour mill. At the mill, the grain is ground* into flour. It (8) puts / is put into bags and then transported to bakeries. At the bakery, machines (9) mix / are mixed the flour with water, yeast, salt and fat to make the thick, sticky dough. This (10) puts / is put into an oven to bake. When the baking is finished, out comes the hot, crusty bread. Other stages at the bakery include cutting and wrapping. The final stage is distribution. The bread (11) takes /is taken in large quantities to a wholesale distribution centre, where it is divided into smaller batches to deliver to shops.
