Turusova Polina (3532705/00001) Monologue on LIVING IN A DIGITAL AGE (UNIT 1) The 21st century is the Digital Age. Our life is no longer possible without gadgets and internet connectivity. In fact, we exist in the information stream, and we cannot imagine life outside of it. However, what is the digital age and what does it offer us? Like the era of industrialization, the digital age began with a revolution. The digital revolution is the transition from analog to digital technologies. The main driving force of this revolution was the advent of personal computers, and as a result their widespread distribution. If we talk about the essence of the information era, then this age of all kinds of information processing or in other words energy. This concept is very different from the same industrial era, which was limited only to the generation and distribution of energy. As an illustration of this, it is worth mentioning that during the digital age, the transmission and processing of information was greatly accelerated , resulting in near-instant exchange of information. In general, any milestone in the history of the digital age can be a telling example of its difference from past eras. Consider the main stages of this era. On the one hand, the beginning of this era can be considered 1948 - the appearance of the first computer in the modern view. On the other hand, in my personal opinion, I would call the beginning of an era when the concept was created that information can be quantitatively encoded as a series of ones and zeroes. Also important stages were the emergence of information media, the speed of data transfer and, of course, the emergence of the Internet, which had a profound impact on all spheres of human life. What did the digital age bring us? It brought us smart machines - devices with embedded in technologies for machine-to-machine interaction or cognitive computing. In short, smart machines are devices capable work through tasks without human intervention, in particular using artificial intelligence. Thanks to smart machines, our life has become more convenient and effective, indeed, their appearance has dramatically changed the nature of work and other social norms. But in reality, any changes are all the more cardinal and have positive and negative consequences, and if everything is clear with positive ones, then which are negative ones? Smart machines can automate some human tasks or collect and analyze an unprecedented amount of data. As consequences, this can lead to a high level of unemployment. Despite the fact that now smart machines cannot, for example, diagnose diseases and recommend better treatments, but with this pace of development they will be able to completely replace people. In order to gain a complete understanding of what a smart machine is worth giving an example. I'd like to talk about an unmanned vehicle. Why did I choose this smart machine? I believe that a world without traffic jams and cities forced by cars is possible only with unmanned car sharing. A huge number of cars are idle just in parking spaces, many people use the car to drive and come from work. But how long does it take? Two hours? The rest of the time the machine is idle. This problem is already well solved by the car sharing service. But unmanned car sharing will get rid of car traffic jams. Most traffic jams arise from motorists' mistakes and accidents. Artificial intelligence built into an unmanned vehicle is more accurate and this will avoid traffic jams. However, now in our lives there are not only smart machines, but also smart cities and houses. A smart city is a concept based on the fact that most city services will be regulated using urban informatics. This will make urban services more cost-effective and efficient. This is mainly achieved by Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) deployment. In a word, the basis for smart cities is the Internet. I believe that St. Petersburg is not yet a smart city, at least the architecture of the 5G mobile network should be supported in the city. Smart house works like a smart city, but on a smaller scale. For example, users are not all residents of the city, but the family. A smart house regulates various household, protective and other processes at home, which makes a person's life very comfortable. The smart home is permeated with wired and wireless systems this facilitates communication between the user and the system. I don't know if I want to live in a smart house. On the one hand, it is very convenient and saves a lot of time. On the other hand, it is scary to learn from household skills, because when any malfunction occurs, all systems can be disconnected. Perhaps I would like to introduce smart technology in my house in part, for example, I hate to clean up, and therefore I will not give up a robot vacuum cleaner or dishwasher. Of course, the era of digital technology has brought us a lot of new things, but, like the industrial age, this era will soon end. A fourth industrial revolution is coming soon, which will be based on the massive introduction of cyberphysical systems into the production and maintenance of human needs. In fact, there are already prerequisites for this revolution. For example, I study at the higher school of cyber physical systems and management, and although this higher school did not appear so long ago, it is rapidly expanding. We can say that the foundation for a new revolution is already being prepared. Download 61.83 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
