Moskva iqtisodiyot universiteti 3-bosqich talabasi I.I.Obidov THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING SPEECH ETIQUETTE IN LEARNING ENGLISH Uzbekistan is the country that is developing day by day. It is not secret that Uzbekistan has already found its own role in the world. It means that the “doors” opened for connect with other countries. As well as, this connect joins with foreign languages. So, The President of Uzbekistan I.A. Karimov’s attention for education especially teaching and learning English. The proof to it is the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued in December 2012 “On measures to further improve foreign language learning system”1 states that the system of teaching and learning foreign languages in the country is aimed at educating and training of the younger generation as progressively thinking people able to ensure the integration of the country into the world community, because better communication leads to freer mobility and more direct relationship which in turn leads to better understanding and closer interaction. All these have required changing the basic objectives of learning and teaching a foreign language. Uzbek classes need learning not only reading, writing, speaking, listening, but also need learning speech etiquette and culture of a foreign language. Because, learners can learn and understand easier through them. Teachers introduce language etiquette of the studied language for better understanding and appreciation of aspects of the culture. Therefore, in many cases teachers start teaching English from language etiquette such as, addressing forms: “Hello”, “My name is…”; “Nice to meet you”, “please”, “Thank you”, “excuse me” and “Mr.”, “Mrs.” etc. This indicates that language etiquette should be a part of any language teaching and learning process. During speaking about teaching “speech etiquette”, we meet one question first of all, What is “speech etiquette”? According to Russian linguist N.I.Formanovskaya "by speech etiquette we understand regular rules of speech behaviour, system of national-specific stable formulae of address accepted and prescribed by the society to establish contact with interlocutor, to maintain and interruptions of the contact in chosen tone or style" [4;c.9]. Speech etiquette is an important element of any national culture. It relates to words and phrases used for greetings, for asking something or permission, for addressing someone, for giving proper intonation to express politeness, etc. We try to describe types of speech etiquette with examples in this table:
