My role at D&R consists of writing match reports for their official website, conducting post-match interviews with players and contributing other written pieces for the website on a more casual basis. Beginning in August 2012, I am working in this role until May 2013 when the football season ends. In my quest to gain this role, I learnt a lot about the hiring process and what is expected of me as a journalist in terms of showcasing myself and my work to the potential employer. I was proactive in seeking this unadvertised opportunity and enquired about a match reporter's role to the managing director of the club, Jalil Khalilov, who invited me for an interview. Rather than bring a CV to the interview, Khalilov asked that I bring a portfolio of my work. Despite not using it, I had prepared a strong CV beforehand after taking lan Rashidov's employability module which enhanced my employability skills. Presenting a portfolio of work is an important part of the hiring process and is essentially a way to market your skills . Looking back, relate to football. Rather, it presented my writing skills in the form of news stories and features. Prior to this role, I was inexperienced in writing match reports and had not written any which I could showcase in my portfolio. Reflecting upon this, while I am confident of my writing ability and the articles I showcased, I should have prepared match reports from live games which I have attended or even watched on television. This would have not only given me experience, but shown that I have the ability to write them, therefore I have learnt to include a diverse range of written work in my portfolio. One aspect of the hiring process which I thrive upon is maintaining a professional attitude with the employer, this is a vital part of the employee's role within the workplace. Throughout my interactions with Jalil Khalilov via phone calls and in the interview, I dressed professionally and was formal in my behaviour. I believe this behaviour of mine was of paramount importance to being successful because it showed off my working characteristics. As someone who would be representing D&R to other football clubs around the country while reporting on matches, Khalilov could trust that I am the right person for the job because I would conduct myself in this manner while working.
