The objectives:
• to help students practise generating ideas to prepare to write
• to provide students with language to express both sides
Learning outcomes:
• students will have worked together to generate ideas related to discursive IELTS essay.
• students will have practised using language for expressing 2 part question essay
Anticipated difficulties:
The students may have difficulty to think of ideas to write an essay. They also might have lack of vocabulary for the related topic, or they may not know how to use certain words correctly and appropriately

Activity 1: Generating ideas (1)

Time: 10 minutes
Procedure.
.to give a discussion essay topic.Some people belive that studying at university is the best route to a successful career ,while others believe that is better yo get
a job straight after school.Discuss both views and give your opinion.
• give students a copy of Worksheet 1 and draw attention to the essay question.
• elicit keywords from the question to identify what they have to write about.
• draw attention to the brainstorming table and elicit initial ideas for each column.
• students work in pairs / groups to generate further ideas for both columns.
