Nestled along the quiet banks of historic New River is found charming

Colee Hammock, one of Fort Lauderdale’s most famous natural set-

tings, steeped in legendary lore and home to some of the city’s finest

luxury waterfront real estate. There is presently a renewed interest in this

area of town with new homes being built, older homes being extensively

renovated and several recent significant sales of vacant property. There

is indeed a renaissance of sorts blossoming here in the hammock.

Families have been building along New River since the 1920s, and that is

still true today. Where else in the world can you watch vessels 160 ft long

and 4 stories high cruising the waterway behind your house? The gentle

meandering bends and currents of the graceful river pass beneath lush

tropical foliage and the seawalls of numerous impressive estates located

here. It is one of the most sought-after locations in South Florida.

Over the past several years, the venerable Colee Hammock Homeowners

Association and First Presbyterian Church have agreed upon the poten-

tial development plans for the church in this neighborhood. The process

worked out to the benefit of all involved and was accomplished through

a series of negotiations which curtails the expansion to specific guidelines;

good news for those who own here.

Drum Realty, Fort Lauderdale’s preeminent luxury real estate firm has

been  at  the  forefront  of  the  recent  renaissance  in  Colee  Hammock

through the sale of several key pieces of waterfront property and his-

toric homes with incredible riverfront vistas. The following are high-

lights of those sales which clearly show the way in which the hammock

is perceived worldwide as an ideal place to be situated now, as it was in

the past, and also will be in the future.
