Nowadays, most countries are constructing different kind of skyscrapers and so many magnificent buildings. However, there is a dilemma: are they building for their purpose or as a work of art? Most people believe they must build for their own purposes, but others say this kind of architecture should be considered an art. In this essay, I will try to explain both sides of the problem and I guess they should be both in similar time.
In some cases, the modern buildings should be economical namely, they must not use a lot territory and must be able to do more functions rather than older ones. What I mean by this is that modern buildings should include various kinds of services. For instance, the first floor is for service, the second is for relaxing, the third is for business, and so on. Moreover, we must think about safety. In the modern world, we usually build high rises in order to accommodate a lot of people. In this situation, we must conduct some tests on the buildings, including their capacity to resist strong winds and minor earthquakes.
On the other side, architecture is important in modern society because it attracts a lot of visitors. Because when you are going to work, you want to take some time to relax, and you will find it in the beauty of your city or town. Furthermore, if we go back to the topic of tourists, they also want to see graceful and impressive constructions. For example, state of the art architectural designs in Dubai, such as the Burj Khalifa, are attracting millions of people every year. Therefore, commercial structures should exhibit modern art and unique designs in order to stimulate the interest of visitors.
To conclude, while it is believed that modern buildings should be constructed on the principle of utilitarianism, I believed that the outlook of the high rise also plays an important part. I suggest that residential towers should focus on this important part. I suggest that residential towers should focus on buildings and come up with unique ideas and designs because art and beauty attract the human mind.
