The number of men participants was approximatly 3000 in 1924 and the number of women was much less than men, it was about 100 women participants. In 1952 these numbers grew. The number of men was more than 4000 and number of women was approximaty 500. In 1984 and in 2012 we also can see growing of these numbers, but in 2012 the number of women closed to number of men. In that year number of men was 6000 and number of women was approximaty 4600.
Summarise, number of participants in the Olympic games grows year by year. The main reason of it is the start of participating women in Olympic games. It says that people who interested in sports have become more than before.
