Coronal seal
Studies have shown that the quality of the coronal seal has a significant effect on the outcome of endodontic treatment with coronal leakage being associated with a less favourable result 15,16 . A number of studies have shown that coronal leakage is reduced if the smear layer is removed 17 . Leakage will also be prevented if an adhesive restoration is placed in the coronal aspect of the tooth, hence the justification for placement of a resin-modified glass-ionomer material over the gutta-percha followed by provision of a well-sealed temporary or permanent filling.
