People often do not interact with their neighbours and this is harming community building. What are causes and solution? It is true that today bonds between neighbors are not that strong and eventually this trend is going to break down social relationships. I believe this is the case due to social media and changes in the society but still there are some ways to revive our relationship with neighbors. The fact that people do not interact in the way they once did can actually be explained by the changes in their pastime preferences which today cannot be imagined without Internet. If once people would organize barbeques in neighbors’ backyard and converse about life today these all is taking place online via popular platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Another explanation would be an emergence of Me-culture. It seems to me that for a person of this age – everything revolves around him and him only. People are so much so self-centered and absorbed that they do not experience a genuine need of going out and talking to their next door. We are so much caught up in our own world that it comes by no surprise the fact that we have arrived at the point that we do not even know our neighbor’s names. Having said these all, there is still a hope to cultivate better bonds with our next doors. We could for example, take some initiative to greet with them and taking more interest in knowing who they are closer. Inviting them for a tea or dinner could be an initial step we could take which is in fact not that hard. Also, respect to our neighbors and the importance of establishing neighborhood bonds need to be implanted right from the beginning- right from childhood. They do,in fact, play a very crucial role in our lives though not always we comprehend that. For example, COVID-19 and quarantine regime is a bright example that has proved the importance of community spirit and kids seeing these all will definitely be different and they will hopefully establish much better relationship with their community members.
