Phonostlylistics

  • Phonostylistics - is a branch of linguistics which investigates the expressively stylistic properties of articulation and intonation. Phonostylistics - phonetical organization of prose and poetic texts.

What is Extralinguistic situation?


It is obviously necessary to try to explain what is meant by extralinguistic situation or factors. It is the sum total of factors which lie outside any possibility of signaling linguistic meaning. The analysis shows that any extralinguistic situation can be defined by three components, that is purpose, participants, setting. These components distinguish situation as the context within which interaction (communication) occurs.

Scene

  • °physical orientations of the participants (the distance between people, proximics studies it)
  • °public/ non-public, formal/ informal, monoloquing/ poliloguing, dialoguing.
  • ° the channel of communication: face to face, public °presentation, telephone, mass media.

The form of communication

  • Communication means transferring messages from one to another through any medium. There are various levels in communication like Intrapersonal communication, Interpersonal communication, Group communication and Mass communication.

Five major forms of communication:
  • Intrapersonal Communication
  • Dyadic Communication
  • Small Group Communication
  • Public Communication
  • Mass Communication

Communication Styles

  • The informational style is qualified as forma,l neutral. It occurs in the written variety of some information read aloud. Here two main realizations of informational style pieces will be discussed – informational educational texts press reporting and broadcasting.
  • The aim is to convey information. There’s little personal involvement. The speaker is detached.
  • Academic style is used in lecturing talk and conferences, academic discussion.
  • Short intonation groups predominate. The tempo is greatly varied. Emphatic pauses are often used. Loudness is rather high.

The term “declamatory” serves for many kinds of linguistic activity. Two varieties of oral representation of written literary texts will be discussed here:

Slang and register

Slang, or informal words often belonging to a specific region or dialect, are highly creative phrases that demonstrate the evolution of language over time. Slang words spotlight the cultural experience of a generation, allowing like-minded people to forge unique ties of communication and understanding.
