  • Birth name- Diana Frances Spencer

  • Born on July 1, 1961 in Norfolk, England

  • She was born to Spencer, Viscount Althorp and Frances Viscountess Althorp



Early Life

  • When Diana was 6, her mother left her father.

  • In 1969, her father received custody of the children

  • In 1975, her father became the eight Earl Spencer making Diana a lady; Lady Diana Frances Spencer

  • Diana attended private boarding schools throughout her childhood

  • She was a below average student but excelled in sports

  • Her dream was to be a ballerina, but she was too tall (she was 5’10”)

  • Her two major campaigns include AIDS Awareness and Landmines



AIDS Awareness

  • In April 1987, Princess Diana became the first “high-profile” celebrity to touch a person infected with HIV

  • Thanks to that act of kindness, Princess Diana changed the public’s opinions of patients with AIDS

  • She also made unannounced visits to terminally ill AIDS patients



Landmines Campaigns

  • She served as an International Red Cross VIP volunteer and visited landmine survivors in hospitals

  • Attended mine awareness education classes

  • She also had a big influence on the signing by the gov. of the UK and other nations of the Ottawa Treaty in December 1997

  • This created an international ban on the use of anti-personnel landmines



Death

  • Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997

  • She died in a car accident in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris, France

  • Her companion Dodi Fayed and the driver of the car, Henri Paul also died

  • A jury decided that Princess Diana was unlawfully killed by negligent driving of chauffeur Henri Paul and paparazzi photographers

  • Many people claim that the crash was a conspiracy
