Q: Some people say that educational success depends almost entirely on the attitude of the student. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

A: Some people believe that behavior of the students is the most important factor for their educational excellence. In my opinion, while student’s being obedient might play huge role, method of teaching is another crucial area on educational success of students.

Firstly, the attitude of the student has a big impact on their educational attainment. This is true both in and out of the classroom. A successful student not only pays attention and listens to the teacher during class time, but also spends time researching and reviewing the topics before and after class. They can also show their attitude by being willing to accept feedback from the teacher and improve their own performance. For example, a 2014 study by the university of Pennsylvania found that university students who both previewed and reviewed the class material every week performed 40% better in the final exam compared to students who did not it.
On the other hand, students’ interaction with teacher and other students, and getting feedbacks from them when they make mistake have beneficial influence on understanding the concepts that are being taught, as well as students’ courage to the class. Besides that, as there are numerous ways of teaching, teachers should provide the most suitable method of teaching for their audience, with using tools like visualization of certain data, encouraging students to compete with each other, to advance their interest to subject. For instance, research from national university of phycology in South Korea proved that there is not preferable way of learning, like visual, auditorial or theoretical, but there is effective way of teaching method for certain subjects, like providing visual resources for geography or instead using formulas in math, explaining concept behind it, improved students final exam score.
In conclusion, a student’s attitude to learning and the quality of teaching he or she receives are both very important parts of their chances of achieving their educational goals.
