What speeds do modern computers have? 6. How many generations of digital computer are there? 7. What is the first generation processing unit? ANSWERS
A computer is a machine that can be instructed to carry out sequences of arithmetic or logical operations automatically via computer programming. Modern computers have the ability to follow generalized sets of operations, called programs. These programs enable computers to perform an extremely wide range of tasks. The purpose of the computer is to perform calculations, store information, retrieve data and process information. A computer has programmed data or computer language that tells the computer how to fulfill its purpose. The computer will only do what it is programmed to do. Computers are used to control large and small machines which in the past were controlled by humans. They are also in homes, where they are used for things such as listening to music, reading the news, and writing. Modern computers are electronic computer hardware. An index is a method of sorting data by creating keywords or a listing of the data. A great example of an index of Computer Hope's hardware listing. A clock speed of 3.5 GHz to 4.0 GHz is generally considered a good clock speed for gaming but it's more important to have good single-thread performance. This means that your CPU does a good job of understanding and completing single tasks. Computer generations are based on when major technological changes in computers occurred, like the use of vacuum tubes, transistors, and the microprocessor. As of 2018, there are five generations of the computer. The computers of first generation used vacuum tubes as the basic components for memory and circuitry for CPU (Central Processing Unit). These tubes, like electric bulbs, produced a lot of heat and the installations used to fuse frequently. Jonh: Where did you go yesterday? Jack: I met Helen Black and went to Marlow. It was a nice place on the River Thames. Have you ever been there? John: Oh, yes, I spent my holiday there last year. I know the place very well. Did you have lunch at the old hotel near the river? Jack: No we had in the open air near the river. John: What time did you get home? Jack: We did not come back till 11 o'clock in the evening 1 There was a knock on the door. I opened it and found a small dark man in a blue overcoat and a woolen cap. 2 He said he was an employee of a gas company and had come to read a meter. 3 But I had a suspicion that he wasn't speaking the truth because meter readers usually wear peaked caps. 4 However, I took him to the meter, which is in the dark corner under the stairs 5 I asked if he had a torch; he said he disliked torches and always read meters by light of match. 6 I remarked that if there was a leak in the gas pipe there might be an explosion while he was reading a meter. 7 He said, 'As a matter of the fact, there was an explosion in the last house I visited; and Mr Smith, the owner of the house, was burnt in face.' 8 'Mr Smith was holding a lighted match at the time of the explosion.' 9 To prevent a possible repetition of this accident, I lent him a torch. 10 He switched on the torch, read a meter and wrote a reading down on the back of the envelope. 11 I said in surprise that meter readers usually put readings down in book. 12 He said that he had had a book but that it had been burnt in fire in Mr Smith's house. 13 By this time I had come to the conclusion that he wasn't a genuine meter reader; and the moment he left the house I rang the police. 14 Are John and Mary cousins? ~ No, they aren't cousins; they are brother and sister. 15 the fog was so thick that we couldn't see a side of the road.
