Weather temperature increase in lower elevations of the country and increase of precipitation in higher elevations have triggered numerous snow avalanches, landslides, as well as increase of water levels in some river basins of the country. The below information was provided by the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense: Sughd province: •
Panjakent district, April 01, 2012: Heavy rains of April 1 st , 2012 triggered landslide in the village of Musobozor (Farob Jamoat). Landslide damaged 500 meters of electricity line as well as two electricity poles of the village. The landslide also damaged one house and killed 1 horse, 3 cattle and 8 calves in the same house. No casualties have been reported. Snow melt led to increase of water level in Soi River of Shingak village (Jamoat Hurmi). Water flow damaged the bridge, which connected the village with other communities. Flood also damaged 1, 5 – 2 hectares of cultivated land of the same village. No casualties have been registered.
• Mastchoh district, April 01, 2012: Strong winds and rainstorm occurred over the night of 1 st to 2
nd April, 2012 in Navobod and Poldorok villages (Poldorok Jamoat). The wind blew off the roofing slates of one residential building in Navobod village and newly constructed high school in Poldorok village. No casualties have been reported.

Asht district, April 01, 2012: Heavy rains of April 1 st , 2012 led to increase of water level in Oshovasoy, Dahanasoy, Ashtsoy, Ponghozsoy and Punuksoy rivers. A volume of 8-10 m3 of water per second led to erosions of the banks of Poghozsoy river of Shaydon village. Local authorities deployed heavy machinery to mitigate the possible river bank erosions of other river basins. No casualties or damage to households have been reported.
• Ayni district, April 03, 2012: On April 3 rd , 2012 at around 11:27 AM an avalanches occurred at 80 - 81 km of Dushanbe – Chanak Highway. Avalanches trapped four heavy vehicles and killed three persons. One person was hospitalized with heavy injuries. Bodies of the victims have been located by local rescuers and handed over to their relatives.

Temurmalik district, April 02, 2012: Heavy rains and melting of snow in upper streams of Surkhob river led to river bank erosion in Qiblai village (Qushqiya Jamoat) over the night of April 2 nd to 3 rd , 2012. Four houses have been washed away and another 28 houses partially damaged. Local population removed their belongings from houses under the risk and moved to temporary tent camps. Kulyab branch of Tajikistan Red Crescent Society and CoES provided tents to affected people. Local authorities provided food and other items, covering the basic needs of the affected population. Local authorities also provided a land plot to affected people for construction of new houses. No casualties have been reported.

Increase of water level in Surkhob and Obi Mazor rivers due to heavy rains =of April 10 th , 2012 resulted in floods in Kuhnabaljuvon and Kaltachanor villages (Tojikistan Jamoat), which affected 20 – 25 households. Flood also damaged local oil well and fully washed away two houses. No casualties have been reported. Local authorities and civil defense services relocated the local population to safer locations. Reinforcement of riverbank is organized by local authorities.

Khuroson district, April 11, 2012: Heavy rains and hail caused a mudflow in Obikiik village on April 11 th , 2012. The mudflow partially damaged two houses and one petrol station. Mudflow also blocked the Dushanbe – Kurgan-Tyube highway. Local authorities cleaned the highway from the mud and opened the road by midnight.

Ishkoshim district, April 02, 2012: Heavy rains of April 1 st , 2012 caused a mudflow in Ishkashim village (Ishkashim Jamoat). Mudflow damaged one house and its inhabitants were moved to safer location. Mudflow also damaged cultivated land, highway and local airport. There is a risk of mudflow, which will damage the territory of Border Point. Heavy rains of April 2 nd , 2012 caused a mudflow in Rin Village (Ishkoshim Jamoat) . The mudflow affected four houses and main river channel in the village. Mudflow occurred in Zugvand village (Zon Jamoat) as a result of heavy rains of April 1 st, 2012. Mudflow affected three houses. Local authorities have relocated affected people to safe place. No casualties have been reported.
• Vanj district, April 03, 2012: Avalanche of 10 – 15 meters height and 200 meters length occurred on April 3 rd , 2012 blocked the road at 431 – 435 km of Dushanbe – Khorog highway in the villages of Tughak and Otashak. Local authorities deployed heavy vehicles to clean the road from snow. No casualties have been reported.

Roshtkala district, April 04, 2012: Heavy rains have caused a mudflow in Baroch village of Mirshakar Jamoat on April 4 th , 2012. Mudflow affected ten houses and killed 4 calves. Affected population has been relocated to safer places. No casualties have been reported.

Dushanbe – Khorog highway, April 04 - 07, 2012: Avalanches blocked Dushanbe – Khorog highway at 441 – 442 km on April 4 th , 2012. Heavy machinery was deployed by Local Authorities to clean the road from the snow. No casualties have been reported. Avalanches occurred on April 7 th , 2012, blocked the road at 577 km of Dushanbe – Khorog highway in Heavy machinery has been deployed to clean the snow from the road. No casualties have been reported.

Rasht district, April 01 – 05, 2012: Heavy snowfalls triggered avalanches in Chugdabiyon village (Kalai Surh Jamoat) on April 1 st , 2012. Heavy rains caused a mudflow in Obi Safed village (Nushor Jamoat) on April 1 st , 2012. Mudflow damaged one bridge connecting the village with other communities. Mudflow also damaged the Obi Safed channel. No casualties have been reported. Mudflow occurred following heavy rains in Bulbul Darra village (Samsolik Jamoat) on April 5 th , 2012. Mudflow fully damaged one residential building and damaged another one. No casualties have been reported.
• Jirgatol District, April 1 – 6, 2012: An avalanche occured in Maydon Terak village (Jirgatol Jamoat) on April 1 st , 2012. 30 calves have been trapped under the snow. No casualties have been reported. Local authorities have deployed heavy machinery to clean the road from snow. Landslide occurred following heavy rain falls in Kushagba village (Surkhob Jamoat) on April 2 nd , 2012. Landslide blocked the road connecting the village with other parts of the community. Local authorities have deployed machinery to clean the road. No casualties or damage to infrastructure have been reported. Heavy rains caused a landslide in Karamik village (Alga Jamoat) on April 5 th , 2012. Landslide has trapped one vehicle with the driver inside. The driver - local resident of the village has been found dead by CoES. The body has been handed over to relatives.

Roghun district, April 06, 2012: Heavy rains triggered two landslides in Kadi Obi village (Kadi Obi Jamoat) on April 6 th , 2012. Landslides damaged one residential building of the village with another 17 residential buildings remaining at high risk. Local authorities and CoES in Roghun moved the affected population to local medical point and local school premises.

Varzob district, April 1 , 2012: An avalanche occurred in Mayhura village on April 1 st , 2012. Avalanche trapped 300 vehicles on the road. “IRS” Road maintenance company has deployed four specialized vehicles to clean the road. No casualties have been reported. Another avalanche in the same village blocked the Ziddi river causing flood, which damaged 10 social and state buildings. Flood killed 10 calves and three cattle of the local residents. No casualties have been reported.

Hissar district, April 10 , 2012: Heavy rains and hail caused a mudflow in Khnakohi Kohi village on April 10 th , 2012. Mudflow blocked the road connecting Arbobi, Kipchok, Jangobi and Saidori villages. No casualties have been reported.

Heavy rains and hail caused a mudflow in Taylanobod and Gulisoi villages (Lohuri Jamoat) on April 11 th , 2012.
Mudflow damaged some residential and three social buildings and cultivated lands. Affected population and families at risk have been relocated to safer places. Local authorities are conducting detailed assessment. No casualties have been reported.
