E) are similar because of the way they both alter but can still be linked with their origins
The Hittites were a people who lived in central Anatolia what is now the Asiatic part of Turkey -
between 3,000 and 4,000 years ago. They came into contact with many of the ancient civilisations,
with whom from time to time they fought wars made treaties, and even arranged royal marriages. A
feature of Hittite culture is that, from the earliest days of their history they cremated their dead. In
this the Hittites appear to have been unique among their contemporaries, with the exception of the
heroes of the Homeric legends. Homer's great epic poem, the Iliad, is set in and around the ancient
city of Troy, which is at the western edge of the lands controlled by the Hittites at the height of their
power. It is certainly possible, therefore, that the custom of cremation was passed on by the Hittite
civilisation to the early Greeks.

A) was written about by the Greek writer. Homer
B) was not practised by any other known civilisation at that time
C) was the most important ritual in their lives
D) came into being more than 4,000 years ago
E) was something they learnt from earlier civilisations
