Ibuprofen is a mild drug used to relieve aches and pains and to reduce inflammation. Patented in 
Britain in 1964, it became available there several years earlier than in the United States. The U.S. 
Food and  Drug Administration approved its sale in 1984.  It may produce the same reactions 
experienced by people allergic to aspirin, but it is less irritating to the stomach lining. Some doctors 
warn of possible kidney damage in the elderly or patients with heart or kidney disease.
