In the previous years, Tashkent has undergone a transformation and become more and more the ideal metropolis for the republican elite. Tashkent's populace is evolving as well. There is now a class of "new" and "old" Tashkent inhabitants due to the city's expansion. Tashkent is the 203rd most comfortable city in the world, despite the efforts made by the government.

The unusual cold wave that recently hit Uzbekistan's capital city caused problems with gas and electrical supplies. In gas pipes, low temperature reduces pressure. This wasn't good for the system as 90% of the electricity in Uzbekistan is generated by thermal power stations that use gas. Power plants struggled to maintain the desired temperature in the city's heating system due to decreasing gas pipeline flow. Because of this cold weather we are facing such huge problems with gas and electricity.
