emotions in english
1.2 Emotive nouns
In the composition of emotive nouns, in comparison with verbs, the share of primary nominations significantly increases (75%) and, accordingly, the share of secondary nominations decreases. So, for example, metaphorically derived meanings for nouns are 9% versus 27% for verbs. Substantive emotive vocabulary mostly belongs to the lexico-grammatical category of abstract nouns. A smaller part of it is unmotivated words such as trouble, fear, sadness, passion, torment, sadness. It is this kind of vocabulary that can be considered purely symbolic, extremely abstract nominations of emotions. Most of the substantive emotive vocabulary is motivated words, various nominalizations, verbal and adjectives, such as rage, affection, tenderness. Derived emotive nouns increase the component of abstract objectivity due to certain grammatical formants (most often due to suffixes -ota, -ost) while maintaining the original lexical meaning of the word that motivates them. For example: apathy, the property of the adjective apathetic; peace-loving, property by adjective peace-loving. So, verbal substantive emotives mainly denote emotive states, attitudes and actions: inspiration, goodwill, hugs. The subjective emotive substantives are mostly abstract nominations of emotional qualities: passion, irascibility, excitement. Along with abstract vocabulary, substantive emotive vocabulary also has specific vocabulary. These are, first of all, animate nouns denoting the subject - the bearer of the emotional state (proud, altruist, pessimist, angry), as well as nouns denoting the person to whom the feeling is directed, for example, a favorite. In fact, this vocabulary refers to complex emotive nominations, synthetically denoting in one word a participant in an emotive situation and the emotion itself. So, substantives-emotives, firstly, give an abstract designation of feelings, secondly, designate emotive qualities in abstraction from their carrier, thirdly, they call a person experiencing emotions or being an object - a source of emotions of another person.
