AIDS

  • Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a disease caused by a virus belonging to the group of ret-rovirus; It is divided into two periods: the period of HIV infection and the period of direct AIDS.

The period of HIV infection is when the virus is present in the human body, but the symptoms of the disease have not yet appeared. The virus almost simultaneously prof. Luke Montagne and Prof. in the United States.

Discovered by scientists led by Gallo (1983). The virus selectively affects the human immune system, especially the SD4 + immune cells. 2-3 days after the virus enters the human body, in 25-30% of cases, symptoms typical of the period of primary infection can be observed. This is called "acute seroconversion syndrome", in which the temperature rises, night sweats, joint and headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rashes on the body, especially in the upper part.

These symptoms are due in part to the immune system's response to the virus. However, the detection of antibodies during this period does not work, because the response of the immune system is not yet fully formed. This period of illness can last up to 8-10 years, sometimes even longer. In practice, the diagnosis of HIV infection is based on the detection of antibodies to the virus in the blood - the immune enzyme assay (IFT).

Although the first antibodies begin to form 3 weeks after the virus enters the body, the diagnostics used do not detect them. Therefore, a person can be diagnosed with the infection based on the results of a test performed 90 days after the virus enters the body.
