Review Movie This is a rare movie that does well on every level every character, scene, costume, setting and joke firing makes it worthy of repeating watching. The film which I have recently watched “Remains of the day” directed by James Ivory and these movies deal specifically with the interactions between the ruling and serving classes in England before the second world war. Based on the novel of the same name, this film was shot in 1993. Famous movie star such as Anthomy Hopkins, Emma Thompson,Christopher Reeve,James Fox, Huge Grant,Ben Champlin acted in it. In this dramma, the life of the main character Stevenson, the life of the servants of that time, the inner hidden emotions of a person,as well as the politics of that timeare reflected. “The Remins of the Day” is considered a historical work that surprised The British. Because each actor and actress were chosen correctly by the film directors. For instance, Stevenson, the main character, fits his character very well, there is a secret hidden in him. Mr. Stevenson, a butler of the rich Lord Darlington family, is the main character in the play. From the beginning to the end of the film, there are almost no major changes in his life. In fact, he comes a lot of losses, but he does not take them out to the outside world at all. His old father also serves in this house. In addition, the beautiful maid Miss Kenton was also one of the housekeepers. In the movie, many guests come to this house, these people from the noble family used to discuss various political issues. It is in this place we can see that the differences between the rich and the servants. That is while various processes were taking place in the society, the servants would not deviate from this circle, but would be busy with their work. This is particularly true of Stevenson's situation. One day there will be a big party in this house, and all the servants are seriously preparing for it. Stevenson's father also wants to participate in the process and does various things. But during the party he dies. One of the servants informs him about it. But he does not pay serious attention to it. When the party ends, he sees his father and takes it for granted. He tells the doctor that one of the guests' feet has been damaged by new shoes and that he needs to be looked after. This is really sad and bad situation. He lost his father, but due to various duties and responsibilities, he had lost his emotions quite a bit. Or if we take his love for Miss Kenton. He feels a strong love for this woman for so long, but he can't say it once. The same obstacle blocks his way. Miss Kenton was also not indifferent to him, but because of Stevenson's inaction, she also chooses to marry another person. Stevenson loses not only his father, but also his love. It will continue like this even if twenty years pass, not one or two years. In the meantime, other servants try to find love and get married. But Stevenson was still in the same situation. On the other hand, the work also reflects the fear of the representatives of the lower class to get involved in politics. For example, one of the guests asks Stevenson a couple of questions about the politics of that time. But he says he can't answer any of the questions. This indicates not only ignorance, but also indifference to the outside world. Stevenson serves the young and the old in this family, and his services in this regard are commendable. But he lost his whole personal life, he could not achieve anything. On the contrary, Miss Kenton made the right decision. Although she did not like her husband very much at first, her love for him grew, she had a child and was about to have a grandchild. But Stevenson's life is the same: serving, introducing the Lord to new servants, etc. A person's life was spent on simple and in significant things. Another important aspect is that representatives of England, France and Germany talk at the table. This period was on the eve of the Second World War, and England expressed warm thoughts to Germany and expressed the opinion that it was on therr side. At a time when various changes are taking place in society, servants have nothing to do. Also, one day Lord Darlington hires 2 girls as servants. Then he says that they should be fired because they are Jews. In this film, the stratification of nations is also vividly reflected. So, the work covered many aspects and therefore the film was made very meaningful. The analysis of the characters in the film is very clear. For example, the protagoni Stevenson is embodied as a hero who puts the interests of his boss above his person interests from the beginning till the end. His father and Miss Kenton are recruited at th same time. But he does not pay attention to his father or to this woman. In my opinion, he has a feeling of love for both of them in his heart, but his attention to his profession and excessive loyalty does not allow him to express this feeling. His father calls him before he dies and tells him he's proud of him, but he says he's busy with that party and they can talk in the morning. But there was some warmth in his eyes, love for his father. Or if we take his attitude towards Miss Kenton. This woman was also not indifferent to him, so she tried to show him affection, brought beautiful flowers to Stevenson's room. As if she wanted to bring beauty and love into his heart. She tells Stevenson about every process in his life: she wants to get marry, she wants to leave here. But even in this process, Stevenson does not say what is on his mind. Even when Miss Kenton cries because she is losing him, he comes back to tell her about work. He shows respect to every guest, even the length of the spoons and forks during the party, but he ignores his loved ones. In my opinion, Stevenson skillfully described the common image of servants of that time with vivid examples. As for the character of Miss Kenton, she was also one of the servants of this family. Unlike Stevenson, he was trying to express his feelings to this man. But when there is no response from him, he also stops the action and marries another person. He also fulfills his duties, but, like Stevenson, he does not forget about his personal life. After 20 years, they meet again. Meanwhile, Miss Kenton has changed a lot, she was about to have a child and even a grandchild, and she loved her husband very much. But in Stevenson, the same situation embodies the image of a hero who wasted his life fulfilling his obligations. I think that Miss Kenton, although a woman, turned out to be a more Intelligent and thoughtful person than Stevenson. Other characters in the film are also chosen very well for their roles. From each of their actions, we can learn about that period, what the servants were like and what the nobles were like. We can say about the film that it is a wonderful work that is able to reflect its time well, and at the same time shows the deepest feelings of the human heart through its eyes. After watching it, I learned that a person does not always hide his feelings, and if he or she does, it leads to many losses. In particular, I realized that, especially men should have his own independent life, personal career, otherwise it would lead to the loss of a whole life. I really liked the movie and I recommend watching it. Because through this film, we can learn to preserve our identity and make right decisions in life. Download 15.85 Kb.
