As space research has taken a giant leap due to private players like SpaceX and ambitious projects from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the space research is compelled to study the behavior of celestial bodies which emit radio waves. Similarly, detecting position and velocity of things using radar has attracted many researchers into the domain called radio location. To achieve multiple operating frequencies each dedicated to a specific purpose, a multi-band antenna can be explored. In this work, we propose a multi-band microstrip patch antenna operating at 23.9 GHz, 35.5 GHz, and 70.9 GHz. The antenna has been analyzed for its return loss, VSWR, gain, radiation pattern and current distribution. The obtained results are verified to suit the requirements and are discussed for 5G and space applications. c 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Introduction Traditional wireless network communication which is supporting around 100-200 Mbps have been revolutionized by 5G communication with a hike in the speed of data transfer up to 10-20gbps[1][2]. The fifth-generation wire- less communication is promoted by LAS-CDMA (Large Area Synchronized Code-Division Multiple Access), UWB (Ultra-wideband)[3]. 5G uses a higher bandwidth spectrum in a millimetre-wave region to overcome the dilemma of multipath fading and inter-symbol interference[4]. It is ubiquitous access to high and low data rate services, habitually ∗ Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed. Mob: 9886564566 E-mail address: riyaz@reva.edu.in 1877-0509 c 2020 The Authors.
