Section Language and Linguistics 7 FACTORS AFFECTING STUDENTS' PRONUNCIATION Sometimes we, as the non-native speaker, made mistakes in pronouncing words. It is because the several things, such as the differences in pronunciation area so that we are not accustomed to produce the sounds. Main reasons for mispronouncing are: • Substitution second language with first language sound because there is no in first language. • Wrong perception on second language sounds because the sound is an allophone in first language. • Using a stress pattern and first language intonation when pronouncing second language in order to create a strange accent. Tips and tricks improving mispronouncing are: Using contrastive information, tact in correction, frequency preciseness and intensity of correction, exact imitation, compromise in correction, simplicity of explanation, sound/letter correspondence, pronunciation in a communicative context, learner- centered approach are the foundation of improvements in teaching pronunciation. Pronunciation teaching needs constant attention for it to have a lasting effect on students and integrating it into daily classroom procedures. Addressing pronunciation issues regularly during the language feedback or group correction stage of a lesson helps to focus learners' attention on its importance. Using supportive materials as charts, textbooks, E-learning materials providing basic knowledge of speech perception, production and acoustics, and knowledge of phonetics, and aims to teach basic skills in speech recording and acoustic analysis, phonetic transcription, and articulation.
