spreadsheet, n. ~ A computer program that provides accounting worksheets, each
sheet containing rows and columns.
Notes: In a spreadsheet, a cell may contain a formula that displays a value that
has been calculated from values in other cells. Changing the value in one cell
affects the values in other cells that refer to the changed value. VisiCalc was the
first spreadsheet program for personal computers. Other examples include Excel,
Lotus 1-2-3, and Quattro Pro.

Notes: Staging is commonly used to describe steps necessary to acclimatize
materials in cold storage for use at normal temperatures and relative humidities, or
to acclimatize materials at normal temperatures and humidities for cold storage.

placed in or removed from storage. – 2. A holding area.

Notes: Staging areas are commonly used to allow time for materials that are
stored in cold storage vaults to come to room temperature before being used by
patrons. They are also used to store new accessions so that the materials can be
reviewed for insects, vermin, mold, and other contaminants prior to accessioning,
and to hold materials prior to destruction.
stamp, n. ~ 1. A device used to print, impress, perforate or emboss a design or letters
on an item, especially paper. – 2. A mark made by such a device. – 3. A small piece
of printed paper attached to a letter or container to indicate the payment of

Notes: Stamps1 are usually small and intended for hand use. The letters or
design are typically raised. Stamps are commonly inked or used to transfer a pigment
or metal from foil. A blind stamp uses no such ink or pigment, and leaves
only an impression of the design.

legal custody, review, or approval.
