128 READING EXERCISES
Exercise 82 Here are explanations: 1) "patented for one specific use" = FALSE BECAUSE TWO USES ARE MENTIONED: for attaching tickets to fabric...AND... to attach papers together. 2) "Fay’s paper clip was not as practical as those we use today" = NOT GIVEN BECAUSE NO COMPARISON IS MADE WITH TODAY'S PAPER CLIPS IN TERMS OF HOW PRACTICAL THEY ARE. 3) "Nobody has a patent on the paper clip that most people use today." TRUE BECAUSE THE PASSAGE SAYS: "The most common type of wire paper clip still in use, the Gem paper clip, was never patented." Exercise 83 A The first paragraph describes current behaviour management methods, and the second paragraph makes it clear that these methods are not working. exacerbate = make problems worse (do more harm than good) Here's why the other answers aren't suitable: B - Paragraph 2 makes it clear that the current system is not working well. So no good solutions are given. C - The passage is about behaviour, not about the WHOLE education system. Nothing is mentioned that suggests the whole system is in crisis. D - Long terms goals are only mentioned as a small detail. This is not the topic of the whole passage. I'll try to explain why in a bit more detail: When choosing the title of a passage, we need to think about the overall purpose or message of the text. The passage in this case tells us about a 3D replica of a cathedral. Benefits are mentioned, but only in relation to this building and other similar building / engineering work. The benefits of 3D printing in general are not given: We don't learn about any other uses of 3D printing - we only learn about the cathedral replica, and possible similar applications. I think it would be strange to have a title that doesn't in some way mention the cathedral replica or using 3D prinitng to replicate buildings. The original article was all about 3D printing old buildings, not 3D printing's general benefits. Here's a link to the article: Download 0.7 Mb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
