Clause of purpose 
Clauses of purpose are used to explain why 
someone does something. They are 
introduced with the following words / 
expressions: 
to / in order to / so as to / so that / in order that / 
in case / for / with a view to / etc.
• to + infinitive
• in order to / so as to + infinitive
• so that + can / will
• so that + could / would 
• in case + present tense 
• in case + past tense
• for + noun 
• for + -ing from 
• with a view to + -ing form
We can express negative purpose by using: 
• in order not to / so as not to + infinitive
• prevent + noun / pronoun + (from) + -ing form
• avoid + -ing form
• for fear + might
