STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN


Step 1. Warm up (5 min)


Exercise1.The students draw a big circle divided into four parts. They should represent each season with a different drawing and label them: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Ask students to make sentences with the words they come up with.
Exercise 2. Musical Dictation.
Individual task. Tell the students that you are going to dictate the verse of a song. Students write it down. Read it twice at normal speed. However, it’s important that they write what they get, even if it’s just separate words in the sentences.
Play the song extract, so students can check their sentences and make changes.

Step 2. (10-15 min) Pair work (break-out rooms)


Google slide1: vocabulary exercise (adjectives, synonyms and nouns)
Exercise 1. Complete the table with adjectives.
Exercise 2. B) Now write the adjectives of the following nouns and match the pictures with the words. 1) heat: ........................ 2) cold: ........................ 3) warmth: ........................ .4) frost.........................

Key! A) 1) sunny; 2) rainy;3) cloudy; 4) stormy; 5) foggy, 6) snowy; 7) icy; 5) windy.

Step 3.(5 min) Sports and seasons.


Individual task.
Point at a season and ask the students what sports are practiced during that period. They should make sentences like this:
I can ski in the winter, when there is snow/ it snows.
We pick flowers in the spring.
We can swim in the summer.

Step 4. (5 min) Flowers, plants and seasons.


PP create a season book, where they are going to record the life cycle of a plant as the seasons go round.
They can also include photos, leaves and flowers to a signal season changes.

Step 5. (5 min) Colours and seasons.


In the art class the students may create a palette of colours to represent each season. They should be creative and use their imagination.

Step 6. (5 min) The sun and seasons.


PP are going to find out what time the sun rises and sets in a season they choose. Each pupil choses a different season and go on the Internet to do their search.

Step 7. (5 min) Long days, short days and seasons.


PP discuss the length of days, short days, long nights and long days, short nights. They can practice sentences such as, In the summer I go to bed at 10.
In the winter I go to bed around 9.

Step 8. (10 min). Animals and seasons (Google slide 2).


In pairs (breakout rooms), students make sentences about different animals and how they spend, for example, the winter. Take advantage of the fact that many animals reproduce in the spring, so teach the names of baby animals such as calf, lamb, kitten, puppy, etc.
Another subject is migration that also links animals and seasons. The students can do some research on the Internet and look for photographs of birds. They could say where they come from, why and when they fly away, what countries they fly over, how many they are, etc.
They can also do some research on whales and penguins.

Step 9. (5 min) Clothes and seasons.


The students can discuss what kind of clothes is the most suitable for each season. They can use a model of a girl and a boy to draw, colour and stick on them the appropriate clothes according to the season.

Step 10. (10 min). Poems and seasons.


The students write their own poems about seasons.

The weather is a curious thing.


It's always nice in the spring.

Summer brings sun and heat,


so many things to do and ice-creams to eat!

In autumn, leaves fall down.


And we play on the ground.

Winter brings wind, cold and Snow.


To make a snowman, we must have a go!
