Essay Solving the problem of informal settlements Although informal settlements are an urban phenomenon, there is a strong link with rural areas, as communities migrate from there in some cases. Yes, most informal settlements around the world have a lot in common. For example, lack of infrastructure and lack of resources, as well as services and open spaces. In addition, the causes and origin of these areas, I believe, are also in most cases the same, since these areas are the product of late industrialization and urbanization, when people move from the villages, wanting to improve their lives. They go to the city to find better jobs and earn more money. Unfortunately, most of these people followed a dream that never happened. Instead of having large open spaces on farms, they created settlements characterized by very narrow spaces, with little to no open areas. The lack of space here is problematic not in terms of the number and size of open spaces, but in terms of the quality of the existing spaces. This is because the land is not available and it does not belong to them. In addition, natural resources are much greater in villages than in cities. City dwellers live in constant competition to survive! Informal areas are absolutely productive places with a strong sense of community that needs to be mobilized through interventions. One important aspect is the organization of centers for the creation of jobs and income. This is the problem of informal areas - how to create new conditions for social development by transforming the urban structure. This is a public issue. Residents can build their own houses, but they do not have the technical knowledge to create all the infrastructure (sewage, drainage, public lighting, waste management). Beyond that, hiring a local workforce is the first step towards achieving this social mobilization and improving the sense of community. I agree with the opinion of the author. Informal neighborhoods are a really productive part of our cities. And they have a very strong economic as well as social structure. Despite the fact that the economic base in some of them is the "black" market or even the drug market, and this is due to the fact that informal settlements are ignored and separated. The involvement of such strong socio-economic structures in the process of universal development, their participation would be the best tools to minimize the problems of "black" or "criminal" markets. This would lead to policy decisions for cities that cover all areas of life, by empowering the inhabitants of informal settlements, working with their know-how to ensure life with minimal use of resources, minimal investment. This would be a potential aspect of development in these countries. Download 12.92 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
