The writing style in a research paper needs to be conventional and should abide by the guidelines provided by the institute. The aim of your writing should be to communicate properly to the audience. The text should feel organized and should flow smoothly.

    What is citing the sources? Identify what does and does not need to be cited.
    

Citing a source means that you show, within the body of your text, that you took words, ideas, figures, images, etc. from another place. Citations are a short way to uniquely identify a published work (e.g. book, article, chapter, web site).
In general, if it's your words, your opinion, your photo, or your graph, of course, you don't need to cite it. HOWEVER, if you are using information from one of your own previously published works (journal article, book chapter, etc.), you MUST cite it just as you would cite another author's work

    What is Verbatim plagiarism?
    

Verbatim plagiarism means copying text from a source and pasting it directly into your own document without giving proper credit.
Even if you delete a few words or replace them with synonyms, it still counts as verbatim plagiarism.
To use an author’s exact words, quote the original source by putting the copied text in quotation marks and including an in-text citation.

Mosaic Plagiarism occurs when a student borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks, or finds synonyms for the author's language while keeping to the same general structure and meaning of the original.
