The analysis of the third unit in Teens` English 7

This unit is specialized for the eighth grade pupils who are studying at secondary school. The theme of the unit is Information Age. The Inquiry question of the unit is What are pros and cons of digital technology? and the inquiry theme is understanding positive and negative sides of digital technology. The unit consists of six lessons, home reading, tests and the list of active and passive vocabulary. In this unit all skills are covered, such as listening, writing, reading and speaking but vocabulary and grammar skills are omitted because at the back of the book there is a useful list of grammar points and vocabulary. This unit is full of useful and fun activities and exercises which will help to learn and practice English, take for instance True/False, matching, chain drill, listening and singing activities.

In the unit the structural language description is used because the modern professions and traditions are given and texts is about current modern technologies.

In the unit the following interaction patterns are used:



  • the whole group (Teacher-Students)

  • pair work(Student-Student)

  • group work(Students-Students)

The third unit is aimed to teach topic-related vocabulary , furthermore the unit makes students improve their speaking skill about awareness of modern technologies in people`s life by the way of describing picture and answering questions, reading skill can be developed with the help of the texts and reading tasks. However there are at least two listening tasks to improve pupils` listening skill on the theme of social media dangers and also writing tasks are also given to practice writing.

In the unit social, memory, cognitive and compensation learning strategies might be used because the exercises/tasks should require ask questioning, grouping, analyzing and guessing meanings to do.
