Positive Effect of L1 on L2 Teaching Grammar Most of the participants stated that while learning English grammar they can understand better if they use Turkish. 47.36% of the participant group sees Turkish necessary for participating and giving example in English grammar class. Also, they feel comfortable and less stressed when they use Turkish. To pass the examinations, 42.10% use Turkish. In terms of understanding the application of grammar rules, 31.57% prefer Turkish in English grammar class. In addition, 52.63% of the participants prefer using both English and Turkish in English grammar class. However, 57.89% don’t agree with the idea of using Turkish in English grammar class to develop themselves. Similarly, 21.05% of participants think that they can develop their language skills by using Turkish in English grammar class (see Table 2).
