The line chart illustrates the proportion of visitors who visited four different attractions in Scotland between 1980 and 2010.
Overall, while the percentage of tourists visiting castle and zoo increased, the opposite was true for aquarium and festival. Castle was the most popular destination in Scotland for most of the period.
In 1980, the proportion of visitors going to the castle was higher than that of the zoo, with 25% and 15% respectively. Over the following 20 years, the percentage of tourists who visited castle in Scotland increased sharply to peak at 45% in 1995 before decreasing considerably to about 30% in 2010. Zoo visitors fluctuated around 10% to 15% from 1985 to 2005 before increasing significantly to 20% in the last year.
The percentage of aquarium tourists in Scotland (20%) was lower than that of festival (30%) in 1980. Over the next five years, there was a sharp increase reaching a peak of about 35% in 1985 before decreasing back to 10% in 2010. Meanwhile, the percentage of festival travelers saw a gradual fell over the period shown.
