The line graph illustrates how many goods were transported in the UK from 1974 to 2002 by road, water, rail and pipeline. Overall, among all forgoing transportations there was a significant increase, bar rail. Units are measured in million tonnes.
Transferred goods by road remained its dominant rate over the period, with standing at 70 in 1974 and peaking at roughly 98 in 2002. After experiencing a slight increase and then decrease, the incidence recovered its degree in 1980. In contrast, having used rarely, the transportation by pipeline stood at the least rate, albeit experiencing a moderate growth from 5 to about 22. 1981 and 1994 saw a leveling off of 60% and 22% respectively.
As for the other two types of transferring itgoods, transportation by water showed a significant increase and that of rail stood constant over the period. Beginning at 39, quantities of goods transported by water increased to 55, before recovering its rate in 1998, then finished at 65. Whereas, transporting goods via rail declined to 30, which was followed by recovering trend till 1995. After that, the increase had increased by a quarter over the next 7 years.
