4. Use active learning
We learn with a deeper understanding when we are both actively and personally engaged:
- juggling information;
- struggling to make sense;
- playing with different options;
- making decisions;
- linking information.
For this reason, most books require us to do something, however, small, to increase our active engagement with the topic.
5. Take responsiblity for your own learning
As we know, learning organizations generally expect us to be ready to study on our own, with minimum assistance, especially for basics such as spelling or grammar. As a learner, we are expected to be largely responsible for our own learning.
One way in which we can act responsibly towards ourselves is to ensure that we are ready for the stage of study that we are entering. Many pupils begin to study without any preparation. This can make study more stressful and difficult than it need be, and undermine confidence. We should make sure we are ready.
