FASHION
A Question of Taste. FashionFashion is something we deal with everyday. Even people, who say they don’t care what they wear, choose clothes every morning that say a lot about them and how they feel that day. What influences our choice of clothes is an interesting question. I believe that most of the people do not follow the fashion displayed on the catwalk. That kind of clothes is the product of famous high-class designers’ work, it is more often very extravagant and extremely expensive. It is also not designed to be worn every day, but it is suitable some special occasions. However, we definitely get fashion ideas from music clips, videos, books and television. Movies also have a big impact on what people wear. For example it is known that more sunglasses were sold in America after the movie Man In Black. Sometimes a trend is world-wide. Back in the 50-s teenagers everywhere dressed like Elvis Presley. Musicians and other cultural icons as well as political and royal figures have always influenced what we are wearing. Newspapers and magazines reported on what Hillary Clinton was wearing when she was the 1st lady. The death of Princess Diana was a severe blow to the high fashion world, where her clothes were daily news. Depending on their attitude towards clothes and fashion, people can be divided in three groups: fashion slaves, spending all their money on the latest clothes even if they don’t look good in them; fashion fans, who enjoy wearing modern clothes but not obsessed by them and people who just don’t care how they look. Personally I place myself between fashion fans and people who don’t care how they look. Although I enjoy shopping very much and like to try things on, especially when I look good in them, I don’t spend much time choosing and buying clothes. And of course I do it only when I really need something new to wear, and not in order to kill time. My style and the range of clothes that I have are defined by the activities I engage in. Work occupies most of my time and therefore most of the clothes that I have corresponds with the dress code, registered in the policy of our company. According to the dress code, an employee is not allowed to wear certain items of clothing to work. For example, men are supposed to wear ties and business suits, and nobody is allowed to wear jeans, except on Fridays. Women’s clothes are not supposed to be skin-tight, too short and too open. All of the shirts are supposed to have collars. Clothes also can’t be too bright, the colors should correspond to the corporate colors – dark blue and white. This is not my favourite topic, but I must speak about it for 15 minutes so I will tell you something about fashion, clothes and I will describe my sister (her build and character). Women dress differently than men. Old people dress differently than young people or teenagers. Clothes which are worn by rich people change very quickly, because they can pay more money then poorer people. But everybody wants to look good in public even sometimes it is very disputable :-). You wear other clothes in house and other clothes in school or work. It’s very important what season is and what the weather is outside. When it’s hot, everyone feels better in clothes which are light and airy. In summer women wear blouses, T-shirts and miniskirts. In contrast to women men wear shorts, short-sleeved shirts or T-shirts. But everybody wear trainers, underwear and sunglasses. When it’s colder, many people prefer warmer clothing and when it’s raining outside the best things you can wear are your large umbrella or long raincoat. Winter is also the time of public parties and balls. There women wear nice evening dress with some jewellery. Men wear some suits usually dark colour. But when people go to work, they dress in clothes like overalls, dirt pants, gloves and wellingtons. But in each country people dress differently. My sister is two years old and her name is Anne-Marie. She is a nice baby. She has got long wavy hair, blond coloured. Her face is small but smart. She has got big brown eyes and small nose. She has got red lips which she inherit from my mum. Anne-Marie has all teeth what she should have, but they are yellow because she love sweets. Her figure is for the present small but she will be tall very tall. Anne-Marie is 80 cm tall and she is very slim. Her limbs are long as well as her fingers. She wear nickers and vest and polo neck or T- shirt, tights and track suit. And now character. Anne-Marie is a very cheerful children. She is very friendly, she likes to play with other children. But she isn’t so generous. She want everything for herself. But she isn’t mean, too. She isn’t very sensible and hard-working child. Anne-Marie is as busy as a bee. Now she is ill so she feels miserable and she is as quiet as a mouse. She is over the moon when my mum buys something for her. But sometimes she is a pain in the neck. But Anne-Marie is my sister and I love her. She is good as gold. That’s all what I cook up. I’m so tired so I will go sleep Good night People have different attitudes to fashion. Some are indifferent, what they wear, for example men and old people. Women are very choosy and particular. They like to spend a lot of money on clothes, but some women sometimes buy clothes, which aren´t particularly expensive. Young people like to wear leisure clothes or they imitate their favourite pop star. Some men are choosy too. They like to spend a lot of money on expensive clothes in elegant shops, but there are some women who buy clothes for their husbands. Some people want to be different asunder some people. They wear strange clothes. People wear clothes according to their taste, moods or their character. Different factors which have influenced the styles of clothing, such as climate, poverty and wealth have played their role. Geography (People buy expensive or cheapen clothes). The styles of clothes is influenced by commercials or advertisements. Very many women choose clothes in fashion show too.Fashion concerns clothes, but also hair style, make-up and accessories, shoes, handbags, gloves or glasses. Fashion concerns clothing, footwear and cosmetic manufacturers. Style, cuts, designs and the length of clothes change. Miniskirts are favourite in at one time. Soon they are replaced by loose dress or maxi-style. Fashion often reverts to older styles. Traditional natural materials such as cotton, wool, linen or silk. Favourite material is denim. Design can be plain or patterned. In summer we wear light summer dresses, loose blouses, skirts, shorts and T-shirts. On our feet we pull on sandals. in winter we need to wear something warm – jeans, cardigans, sweaters, anoraks and boots. On special occasions we like to be dressed properly too. When we go to a concer or to the theatre we are dressesd up. We wear an evening dress, such as shirt, trousers, tie and dress. For sports we put on sports wear, such as jeans, shorts, T-shirts. At home we like to feel comfortable, and so we prefer leisure wear, such as trousers, T-shirts. To school we wear something practical, such as trousers, jeans, T-shirt, sweatsuit and trainers. Special kinds of clothes are uniforms and costumes. Uniforms are worn particularly by professionals such as the police, the armed forces or health workers. Some people do not choose their dress with regard to the latest fashion. The most important thing is that such dresses are neat and clean. I like wearing leisure wear, such as jeans, trousers, maxi or mini skirts, T-shirt or shirt. I like wearing different clothes, but I don´t wear different clothes to school. I wear clothes according to moods so that feel comfortable. The French word mode, meaning "fashion", dates as far back as 1482, while the English word denoting something "in style" dates only to the 16th century. Other words exist related to concepts of style and appeal that precede mode. In the 12th and 13th century Old French the concept of elegance begins to appear in the context of aristocratic preferences to enhance beauty and display refinement, and cointerie, the idea of making oneself more attractive to others by style or artifice in grooming and dress, appears in a 13th-century poem by Guillaume de Lorris advising men that "handsome clothes and handsome accessories improve a man a great deal".[4] Fashion scholar Susan B. Kaiser states that everyone is "forced to appear", unmediated before others.[5] Everyone is evaluated by their attire, and evaluation includes the consideration of colors, materials, silhouette, and how garments appear on the body. Garments identical in style and material also appear different depending on the wearer's body shape, or whether the garment has been washed, folded, mended, or is new. Download 42.38 Kb.
