This movie is about the condition that threats the country with new type of infection that can kill millions of people but can be prevented by the death of one person. The president received a required task from one person named Saunders and the assignment was demanded of execution of an agent named Ryan Chapelle. Otherwise, Saunders told to the president that he will spread the virus to another cities, if they will not kill this person and bring the corpse to the place which Saunders talked. By giving such condition, this movie demonstrates to choosing the intentionally murdering one person versus the life of millions of other citizens of America which is the directly related to one of the goals of utilitarianism:” providing greatest happiness for the greatest amount of people”.
The scenario that was committed by the government was morally correct. Mainly because, if the president didn’t accept the stipulation, it would cause to killing of millions of people by infecting the new virus. The government has enough information about the symptoms of virus and its peculiarity that was observed by the infected people which they collect from the certain hotel. Infected blood vessels can lead to infected patient to die painfully approximately 6 hours. As Saunders’ agent says that if they decided to spread the virus, they can get onto three to five million people in forty-eight hours.
Although it was really tough situation for Jack Bauer to execute his coworker and friend probably, it is the best commitment that must be done in this case, and I would definitely choose to do so. In the movie, they try to find Saunders by his calling to one person near the hotel 25 minutes before and when agents got the place and handling the building, they deciphered that he switched the node and they were deluded. On the other hand, Jack Bauer had a hope that this operation can stop the execution by finding Saunders and it was turned out to be false, even though the agents put everything they have to save Chapelle by several urgent operations and Jack had to shoot Chapelle which is the best choice to save the nation from a new disaster. As a conclusion, what’s clear that, it is never just to put a life of the sole individual over the life of million others.
