INTRODUCTION (abstract of PhD thesis)
The aim of the research work is to provide a scientific justification for the
influencing factors, both
linguistic and extralinguistic, on the productivity of
genetically unrelated homonyms in the English and Uzbek languages, as well as
their lexicographical interpretation.
The object of the research work is genetically unrelated homonyms of the
English and Uzbek languages.
The scientific novelty of the research work:
criteria of differentiation between genetically related and genetically unrelated
homonyms have been developed; the reasons of
their emergence have been
grounded;
differentiations between homonymy and polysemy have been elucidated;
their order of presentation in the dictionaries, through
comparing bilingual and
modern dictionaries, has been demonstrated;
the linguistic and extralinguistic factors influencing the development of
genetically non related homonyms in the English and Uzbek languages have been
studied by means of historical sources;
semantic,
terminological, stylistic, derivational and phraseological factors of
productivity of genetically unrelated homonyms have
been calculated through
statistical method;
in view of the importance of knowledge of the values of homonyms to
translators and learners of foreign languages, methodological
approaches to the
creation of explanatory and electronic dictionaries of genetically unrelated
homonyms have been developed.
