INTRODUCTION
(2-3 pages)
In the introduction write one page about authors contribution to English literature……………………….
For the beginning of my work, I would be satisfied if I inform you about Aestheticism which is notable when we remember Oscar Wilde. Oscar Wilde was not the inventor of Aestheticism, but he was a leader in rising the movement in the end of nineteenth century .Aestheticism was an art movement privileged the aesthetic value of literature , music and the arts over their socio-political functions. It flourished in the 1870s and 1880s, gaining prominence and support of notable writers such as Walter Pater and Oscar Wilde. Especially, Oscar Wilde was particularly impacted as a college student by the works of the English artist and faultfinder Algernon Charles Swinburne and the American author Edgar Allan Poe. The English writer Walter Pater , an advocate of “art for art’s sake” made a difference to create Wilde’s humanistic aesthetics in which he was more concerned with the person, the self ,than with prevalent developments like Industrialism or Capitalism. Art was not implied to taught and ought to not concern itself with social, ethical, or political direction.
In 1882 Oscar Wilde visited Canada, where he toured the town of Woodstock, Ontario and gave a lecture on May 29 titled “The house beautiful”. In this lecture Wilde exposited the principles of the Aesthetic Movement in decorative and applied design , also known at the time as the “Omamental Aesthetic” style.
The aim of my course paper is to represent the personal life and work of Oscar Wilde (His best-known works)
To reach the aim I put forward the following tasks:

  • to study literary movement called Aestheticism which O.Wilde associated with

  • to investigate Oscar Wilde’s contribution to British literature

  • to analyse his prominent works
