Perhaps the most famous example of an African species in danger is rhino, which was one widespread across Africa. Numbers dropped form more than 70,000 in the 1970s to less than 2,000 in 1990 as they were hunted for their horns. The giant sable antelope in Angola was the last large mammal to be discovered in Africa. It has now been hunted to the brink of extinction for its long curved horn. The African wild dog is also endangered. One-third of the world`s 235 primates are in danger of disappearance as a direct result of the actions of one fellow primate species, humans.

The summer after Maggie Doyne graduated from high school, she decided to spend a year traveling the world before she started college. The journey changed her fifes forever. In 2006, Doyne took a backpacking trip through Himalaya Mountains in the war-torn country of Nepal, in Asia. She met a group of homeless children. Having grown up comfortably in Mendham, New Jersey, Doyne was shocked to see so many kids living on streets. She wanted to do something about it. So Doyne used her savings of 5.000 dollars in babysitting money to buy an acre land in the village of Surkhet. Then, she built the kids a home, the Kopila Valley Children`s Home. The Do Something Foundation is the youth organization, which provides resources and support for young people who want to make a difference in the world. Now this foundation is doing something for Doyne. It awarded Doyne the 100,000 dollar prize.
