The original reason for Sisters/ Nuns to wear a habit, and for Priests and Brothers to wear traditional religious garb, was to wear the dress of the common people. Over time, the “habit” and the collar became signs or recognized symbols of faith in God and commitment to Christianity. What’s the difference between a Priest and a Brother? Priests and Brothers are men who have dedicated themselves to live vowed religious lives (of chastity, poverty and obedience) within the Catholic Church, following in the footsteps of Jesus in ministry.
