Many of the photographers won thanks to the fact that they were able to convey the history and emphasize the individuality of their country. For example, Sergey Savenko, who became the best photographer in the Russian Federation, according to SWPA 2020, submitted a dramatic image of a girl in a black dress against the background of the highest mountain in Russia – Elbrus. Another winner from Serbia, Jelena Jankovic, won thanks to a photo of a portrait of a girl dressed in traditional national costume, and Brazilian photographer Mateus Leite Ferreira won the main prize for his metaphor about the complex history of the slave trade in Brazil.
