✅ Q: Studies have shown that intelligence has a direct correlation with financial success. As a result, some people believe that IQ tests are appropriate for job interviews.
How much do you agree with this point of view?

💡 INTRODUCTION


Research has indicated that there is a very close relationship between intelligence and making money. For this reason, it has been argued that IQ tests should be used in job interviews to help select employees. Although in some ways these tests could have benefits, I believe that they are inappropriate.

Finding intelligent workers is certainly advantageous for all businesses and IQ tests could certainly help in this pursuit. It is clear that people with exceptional cognitive ability are often able to learn procedures quickly and can find it easier to handle complicated tasks. Such employees can be particularly beneficial for companies who require complex thinking in industries such as law, medicine and finance. Another advantage of using IQ tests is that the selection process becomes more objective and impartial. If an employer focuses purely on a persons’ intelligence rather than their ethnicity or gender, inherent biases and prejudices can be avoided.

However, in most cases, IQ tests are not useful for finding the best employees. These tests are completely incapable of assessing people’s character. Most often, employers are looking for someone committed to their company, honest and hardworking. A regular interview is a much better way of identifying such workers. Furthermore, using these tests is not an appropriate way to find workers who have the specific abilities required for the job. Most jobs require advanced social skills and the ability to work in a team. A company filled with geniuses who are unable to work together to achieve a common goal is a company destined for failure.

In conclusion, while there are some minor benefits of using IQ tests for job applicants, in most contexts they are incapable of finding workers that match their workplaces. Thus, I believe that these tests are inappropriate for job interviews.
