HBA Completes Design for Tangla Brussels
Thursday June 2nd, 2016 10:01AM
BRUSSELS—Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA)
has completed the design of Tangla Brussels
here for Tangla Hotels and Resorts, the
international hotel management arm of HNA’s
Hospitality Group based out of Hong Kong.
The 187key hotel is located in the city’s
economical hub with close proximity to the
Chinese Embassy and International Airport. The
property exudes the four core values of the
Tangla hotel group: harmony, elegance,
excellence and tranquility, and celebrates
Chinese culture, art and traditions by paying
homage to China's history, according to the
Designed by Belgium native and HBA Partner
David T’Kint, the design directive was to bring the
ornamented beauty of Chinese culture and
folklore to Belgium. T’Kint collaborated with art consultant Malorie Fourrier and interior designers Leo
Wang and Shawna McFee on the hotel brand’s first mark into Europe.
Upon entering, there is a pair of stylized Chinese horses, symbols of strength and nobility, providing the
first introduction to the visual journey between East and West, according to the company. The lobby’s back
wall features floortoceiling custom artwork by Chinese native Yang Fei, depicting the Tanggula
Mountains. Artwork is showcased in a series of 22 lacquered frames pieced together like a modern puzzle.
The central bar in the lobby lounge offers natural daylight from the skylight above.
The small guestroom features concealed storage, customized headboards and technology in the TV and
desk area. Each room is filled with Chinese symbolism and objects of tradition, as well as carpets colored
in tones of blue and green inspired by the mountain landscape.
To remain exclusively Chinese, all artisans and craftsmen were sourced locally in China and across the
region, according to the company.

It's All in the Details
And now for something
completely different: Yes, that’s
wallpaper on the cover. While
we’ve recently featured people
on our covers and, at other times,
interior spaces, it’s unusual for
us to feature one specific design
detail. But, after all, isn’t it about
the details? When it comes to
hotel design, that’s what we’re
told, over and over again, and
more and more often.
