Answer the following questions.
What is something that happened in your life, but that you wish had not happened?
This happened when I was about 10. On a family vacation, I was swimming in the ocean by myself, with only my older sisters and our cousins supervising from the beach. I found myself drifting out beyond where I could stand up. A man held me from behind and told me he was helping me get back to the shore. We swam back to the shore together, I turned around to thank him and nobody was there. My sisters were watching the whole time and said that I just swam into the shore by myself, turned around, then came to them.
What is something you don’t do, but you wish you could do?
I really wish I could learn another language, like fluently. I just do not have the aptitude or patience to learn a language and I'm no good at teaching myself through books or tapes. I loved French at school but our teacher was usless, she couldn't control the class, and it was a waste of time. I came out with schoolboy french and I wish I had pursued it then. I did dabble a few years ago on my own but I failed. I did look into going to college to learn again but I guess I never made the big step. It would be so beneficial to be fluent in at least two languages to go places career wise.
I wish I had a great voice for singing - but I don't - I just was not blessed with that.
What is something you don’t have, but you wish you had?
I wish I had known that as I embarked out into the world and tried to start a career, the great challenge I’d be facing would be from within my head, not out in the world. There are two things to understand here, the “in my head” part and the “out in the world” part, and I didn’t understand either nearly well enough.
For the “in my head” part, I had no idea about the concept of two competing forces inside of me (what I’ve been calling the higher being and the animals), battling for control. I thought the battle was me against the world, and by completely missing where the real battle was, I was totally unprepared to help the right side win. I was an amateur on that battlefield and I was beaten soundly for a bunch of years as a result.
