Effective Classroom Management

Abstract
Teachers play a key role in shaping effective education. Effective classroom management sets the stage for the effective learning. It is important to the whole education process because it offers students an ideal learning environment. One of the teacher’s most important jobs is managing the classroom effectively. This task determines teaching success and with poorly managed classroom very little academic learning can happen and lead to indiscipline. Classroom management doesn’t mean just discipline and rules, expects more than this. This refers to eliciting and maintaining the pupil’s attentiveness, sustaining the pupil receptiveness and of achieving appropriateness. This requires teaching competence; rich learning experiences; maintaining sound relationships with pupils’ etc. In this study some of techniques; strategies are discussed for student teachers. However, managing classroom techniques differ from teacher to teacher. Reflective teaching provides better platform for practising this skill for student teacher’s by anticipating the problems and accordingly design strategies to promote positive learning.

Classroom management is basically considered as a collection of methods for handling disruptive behavior/ indiscipline of students, but the concept of classroom management is broader than the notion of discipline. In the point of view of classroom management the concept of discipline has been replaced by a more comprehensive body of knowledge on how to increase student’s achievement by preventing management problems.
Classroom management also be explained as the actions and directions that teachers use to create a successful learning environment; indeed having a positive impact on students achieving given learning requirements and goals. In managing classroom environment it is very important that, there should be a balance between teacher actions that provide clear consequences for unacceptable behavior and teacher actions that recognize and reward acceptable behavior. Joseph Renzuli et.al,(1983) stated that when teachers allow students to study in environments conducive to learning and use approaches to learning that are most productive for each student, the students learn much more effectively and behave appropriately. (p-23 models of teaching)
There are so many factors which contribute for effective classroom management. Research on these lines shows that, understanding student’s needs, motivation, teaching competence; rich learning experiences; maintaining sound relationships with pupils’, designing rules and classroom seating arrangement etc., plays a key role in effective classroom management.
