I am Khabibullokh Gafurjonov and I come from the little village of Uzbekistan in Central Asia. I am 19 and sophomore at TUIT(Tashkent University of Information Technologies). I am writing to express my high interest in UGRAD exchange programme as it has always been my age-long ambition to be a part of this program, where one can immerse himself/herself in a new culture, explore the traditions, and most importantly develop leadership and communication skills.
When I was young, I used to spend hours on streets for sports. My parents said that, I should think about carefully and seriously were slowly approaching me. I do not remember what they said word by word, but I remember my mother’s words: “Physical health is important, but there are things that are much more important and you should take one field and help others by taking this jobs responsibility”.
Many things changed after that day. For example, I set a daily agenda for myself, made self-promises such as entering the university that is considered to be the best in IT field, getting a higher score in IELTS and most importantly becoming a leader wherever I take place. I achieved most of my goals by the help of my friends and family and more essentially, I participated many charity works, alms-deed events. I went to many charity houses, orphanages with my peers and classmates.
Nowadays, we go to one certain place to accomplish one certain task. Because of many events that I went, I got that, focusing on one task at a time leads to higher productivity, lowers stress levels and makes me happier. So, I am a bit serious and responsible when it comes to checking or organizing. Although I am a student, I am not shy and I am not afraid to enforce the rules, especially when hard times come upon us, I will definitely take a step and make everyone follow the steps that are guaranteed by lots of experienced decisions.
Usually, many people ask me that what is so important about being a leader, I do not even have 10 people in my team, whats so special about taking these actions and wearing myself out. I always have many answers for that kind of questions. But, there are people who know about being a leader and who do not. And of course, I come with an universal answer. There are not any materialistic things being gained by becoming leader, but anything spiritual and this is the most important than the other side. Or these words of mine can be explained in a modern language: having fewer teammates for the project forces the search for an easy and universal solution that increases productivity, reduces problems and disagreements among group members and brings the team together. In the group with a small number of group mates, showing my skills gives them more visibility so they can learn directly from my experience and demonstrate my visions and solutions directly to people.
To be honest, finding a person with money is easy as 2+2, but, finding a person who knows how to solve any community related problems and help people by doing it is not easy. In a nutshell, leadership is about making people follow you. And if you are a leader and you have great plans to make your community unique and powerful, you better think how to achieve it and discuss with your teammates. Also, I think that leader is also the one who inspires and motivates the team to achieve a common goal.
