Cooperative Education (Co-op)

Centre for Individual Studies

The International Baccalaureate Program is a

challenging two-year program of international

education for students aged 16 to 19.

OYAP is a school-to-work program that

opens the door for students to explore and

work in apprenticeship occupations in

Grades 11 and 12.

Specialized Arts Programs consider one or

more areas of the arts as a major

instructional focus.

eLearning provides students with access to

over 100 secondary courses and the

flexibility to place a course anywhere in their

timetable.  These courses follow the precise

Ministry-mandated curriculum as do regular

face-to-face courses.

In the Co-op Program, the Board partners

with community businesses, post-secondary

education facilities and training organizations

to provide experiential learning

opportunities.  Students earn credits towards

their Ontario Secondary School Diploma

(OSSD) while learning work skills and training

necessary to be successful in an occupation

of their choice.  Some programs also provide

initial apprenticeship training (see OYAP).

The Centre for Individual Studies is an adult

and alternative school which provides a

dynamic educational experience in a flexible

environment where students and staff

together pursue their quest for life-long

learning in an atmosphere of cooperation,

dignity and mutual respect. Programs

include: Credit courses, Literacy and Basic

Skills, Dual Credits, Co-operative Education.

Although the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board strives to

provide students with the opportunity to choose from a wide

breadth of programs, the availability of classes and/or programs

in any subject is dependent on interest and enrolment.

Where student numbers are not sufficient, schools may be unable

to offer courses and programs or may need to do so by combining

classes, grades, levels and even subjects.

Career Cruising

All students from Grades 7 to 12 are required to maintain an

Individual Pathways Plan (IPP), and to review and update their IPP

at least twice a year.  Information on careers, colleges and

university programs, job-search and resume-building tools are

some of the useful features of Career Cruising, the web-based

tool that forms the basis of the IPP. www.careercruising.com

Ontario Skills Passport

The Ontario Skills Passport (OSP) provides clear descriptions of

Essential Skills and work habits important for success in work,

learning and life.  Learners can use the OSP tools and resources to

access, build, document and track their skills in classroom,

cooperative education and other experiential learning

opportunities, volunteer and extracurricular activities.

Compare their skills to those required in occupations of interest

Practice and develop skills using real workplace activities

Create a resume, covering letter and prepare for a job interview
