Novel

ANIMAL FARM

Author

George Orwell

IV chapter/
page 41-49

Plot description

The fourth chapter of this story began with the fact that all the other farms and even people from other cities began to hear more and more about the Animal Farm and we can say that it was the merit of Snowball who allowed the pigeons to spread everything that was happening with them to all the other animals so that they too joined them in this great movement to freedom . One of the most important events that occurred in the fourth chapter is the war between animals and people who came to return the farm to Mr. Jones. There were losses on both sides and many wounded, but the fact that people underestimated animals was their biggest mistake. In the war, each individual animal fought very bravely and bravely, but the most important role was played by snowball, because he created this whole war plan by blogging, knowledge of which he got from books about military stories. Different ranks and orders were created for the heroes of the war between animals, and they always remembered this great victory and ended their meeting, as always, with a song.

The language characteristics (literary devices)

1-Imagery

Purpose
The purpose of imagery is to bring the writing to life, create the mood, help the reader visualise the imaginary world and make the reader feel like they are part of the experience that the author has created.
Examples from book
One of them, which was named Foxwood, was a large, neglected, old-fashioned farm, much overgrown by woodland, with all its pastures worn out and its hedges in a disgraceful condition.

2-Flashbacks

Purpose
The purpose of a flashback is to convey to the reader some information about the characters background or the motives for the existing conflicts in the story.
Examples from book

  1. Mr. Jones’s gun had been found lying in the mud, and it was known that there was a supply of cartridges in the farmhouse.

  2. She had taken to flight as soon as the gun went off.

3-Foreshadowing
Purpose
The purpose of the foreshadowing is to help readers develop some expectations from the story or build suspense.
Examples from book

  1. At heart, each of them was secretly wondering whether he could not somehow turn Jones’s misfortune to his own advantage. – (foreshadows that later other farmers will try to return the form to Mr. Jones and at the same time benefit for themselves.)

  1. Nevertheless, they were both thoroughly frightened by the rebellion on Animal Farm, and very anxious to prevent their own animals from learning too much about it.- (This information helps readers understand that because of these fears , people in the future , in the continuation of this story , will act against these animals .)

4-Motif
Purpose
The purpose of a motif is to reinforce the core theme and remind the readers of what the whole idea of the story is about.
Examples from book
Beasts of England – (Since this song plays a very important role in this book, it explains the whole essence of these stories and the purpose of animals. They gather and sing this song every time, and this process continues in every chapter of this book.)
