MATLAB is an abbreviation for "matrix laboratory." While other programming languages usually work with numbers one at a time, MATLAB operates on whole matrices and arrays. MATLAB is a programming platform designed specifically for engineers and scientists to analyze and design systems and products that transform our world. The heart of MATLAB is the MATLAB language, a matrix-based language allowing the most natural expression of computational mathematics. MATLAB is a computing platform that is used for engineering and scientific applications like data analysis, signal and image processing, control systems, wireless communications, and robotics.
MATLAB is a powerful and versatile tool for engineers and scientists. It is broadly used in academic and research institutions, as well as in industry. There are many courses available for learning MATLAB, ranging from beginner-level courses to advanced courses that cover specific areas of MATLAB.

As an attender of this course, I have not had enough information before you teach or have direct experience using MATLAB, but after a lot of getting knowledges, now I can provide with a brief overview of what it is commonly used for.
